That is a good start. That sounds like you have the ability to think logically. Let's see if we can go a little deeper into logical thinking.

1. In a complex world, we need government to perform certain functions.
2. For government to exist, they need income to operate.
3. For now, taxation is the means for government to obtain income.

I hope we can agree to this point. There is no use going forward, if we can't agree to this point.

The questions at this point then are:

1. How much government should we have, and
2. How do we pay for it.

If we still agree to this point, then the question is where do we draw the lines?

My objection is to the mindless mantra that insinuates there is no role for government and that we should all have the "freedom" to do whatever we want.
