I think states have to get this law on the books because we have allowed the criminals to run us for far too long. You've heard all the excuses, they're abused, mentally challenged, poor, not given the proper government assistance, etc. They don't break the law and get reformed/rehabed, they go back out and commit more crimes. I think your average person is fed up and is going to take a stand. They are going to protect their posessions and their family. The majority of the people work hard for what they have. A lot of people live paycheck to paycheck, others are better off but not by much, not in these times. Pensions aren't what they used to be. Neither is healthcare, insurance premiums and college education. Getting robbed is just the beginning of the nightmare a victim goes through. Replacement value isn't worth the paper it's written on, doing battle with your insurance company to get some compensation is adding more stress. You have to take time off work because you have to deal with all this on personal time. A lot of the time, that time off work means you don't get paid. More times than not, your insurance will drop you or worse yet, you have to discontinue coverage because your rates just went through the roof. Now comes the fun part!! If by chance they catch the guy and that's a big if, the D.A. will cut a deal and this looser will be right back out in a very short period of time. If it goes to trial, the defendant will know just as much or more about you as you know about him. I don't know if the law has ever been changed but I can tell you that when I sat on a jury in 1990, the two defendants in a murder case had in front of them, all the jurors personal information. Jurors full names, for women, it also included their maiden names. Their current home and office address if applicable. The only thing it didn't have on there was the social security number and drivers license number of the juror. I can also tell you that none of the jurors on that trial knew before hand that the defendants in this case were given access to all this information. I can tell you I was outraged at the fact that these two murders had so much info on us. We were given police protection after we handed down a verdict of guilty for them both because the courts were concerned for our safety!
From what I've seen in the news, citizens are fed up and fighting back. |
