WhoooooHoooo! A liberal brings changes! Crime is going down! Only 392 Murders in Philadelphia in 2007 as compared to 406 in 2006! Only 80% of those murders were by hand guns! We're turning this neighborhood on its ear... Some of the more 'seasoned' neighbors are concerned I might drive them out of town. Gentrification IS a real threat to low income homeowners. With it comes higher taxes on those with fixed incomes or the low income poor who are least able to afford the increases. Additionally, those fixed income people are unable to keep up with the improvements made by the neighbors and don't think that seeing themselves look junky by comparison doesn't effect their pride. Perhaps rather than just enriching one's own nest by buying up & fixing up properties, a real "liberal" would help out his neighbors: Help them fix up their homes, build some community green space, provide education scholarships, set up a tool cooperative [How many extension ladders does a street need?] or payoff L&I when they start hassling the neighbors because your improvements have raised the bar? Rather than "love and thrive" on diversity; why not actually DO something about it? Please don't tell me you hired neighbors as day laborers to do dirty demolition work either. Happy New Year!
