Saying race is no barrier is easy. But proving it is is very risky and very difficult. Nominating a non-white or a woman is uncharted territory in US history.

In either case, everyone knows the GOP will run racist or sexist ads and call Obama "Borat Hussein Osama" over and over, or call Hillary a "lesbian feminazi" over and over. The question is, can that work like it did against Harold Ford just one year ago by insinuating he wanted to screw white women? If so, why take the risk?

Speaking of race, we also ran a Greek candidate with an olive complexion once, remember? Because Gary Hart got caught playing around. That turned out great too. And remember Geraldine Ferraro? Everyone thought Mondale was so progressive for picking her. He lost 49 states. And look at how Italian Guiliani has dropped like a stone. The big 9-11 hero but one whiff of mafia corruption and he's finished.

I'm not saying Obama or Hillary can't win, but they definitely make the race a lot closer and that makes it possibly stealable. Remember, the GOP has stolen close races the last two times. It's part of their modus operandi. So expect it. And therefore, avoid letting it be close in the first place. The key is the lanbdslide. And polls show Edwards runs strongest against any GOP candidate, including 16-20% margins over Huckabee and Romney.
