I don't think my mother and step father quite realize how lucky they were that we got them out of their home before the fires in San Diego last fall. Their neighborhood was evacuated. It would have been a disaster for them. I knew their area was a fire risk. Two blocks away there is a big brushy canyon full of coyotes and chaparral. Like a big chimney for fire. You are right, good assisted living has many activities. Theirs is top notch. Mostly retired military. I think there are at least two flag rank retired officers there. Mom plays Scrabble every Sunday, and I've played with her there four or five times.
