My 12ga 870 stays right by my bed. I have the 18" slug barrel on it and it's loaded with 4 shots of 00 buck. Chamber is close and not loaded. So if the need arises I need to quickly jack a shell in. I do this both for safety reasons and for sound effect. I've not had to do this and likely never will. If however I ever do need to someone is going to have the worst day of their lives.

Wife is also well trained in spraying buckshot.
