I agree that there are a sizable number of people who make serious efforts to become informed. Some of them however are examining what people say with an eye for refuting it rather than learning from it.

"Ron Paul understands economics better than any candidate in the race, and he understands that printing money as we have been and paying for all the aid in the world will only work for so long."

I suspect most reasonably informed people understand this. Politicians however look for ways to punt problems out a few years so they can take credit for "solving" them without ever having to get blamed for the bad taste of the medicine.

"If the candidates screw up ... you see immediate results in the polls."

Good. People have let the current crop of politicians get away with far too much.
