I think Obama is the Tiger Woods of the presidential candidates in 2008 -- and Tiger rarely ever makes too many costly mistakes once he gets out ahead in the big tournaments that count.

Nothing is guaranteed for Obama but he is very different than Dean (who ran a campaign based on Anger). Obama is a much more thoughful politician who is effectively selling "change" and "hope".

Last night Obama won because he did something many campaigns have claimed they would do in the past, but never until now had never actually accomplished: he turned out young voters and new voters in record-smashing numbers. This has long been the holy grail of progressive politics, and until now no one had been able to pull it off. Well, Obama pulled it off. That is a remarkable an historic accomplishment. That is why he won.

Obama is a very powerful and persuasive speaker...He's a unique candidate who is committed to bringing profound change to our country...Obama's growing the party and making the progressive movement enticing (or at least palatable) for a clear majority of Americans. Don't underestimate the impact of the "I will listen to you even when we disagree" line. That kind of basic fairness and decency is REALLY appealing to alot of people.

I am amazed when some folks seem unable to see that Obama is doing exactly what he said he would do: he is building a movement for progressive change.

We can't get there with the existing Democratic Party. We need to grow the party, that is exactly what Obama is doing.

Climb on board the change train!

Bill Clinton was the Governor of a small, socially backward, southern state. He was the leader of the DLC, for God's sake. Clinton was a clear centrist who brought us triangulation and Sista Souljah moments.

By contrast, Obama is a northern, urban, progressive. He has consistently made life choices that demonstrate his commitment to progressive values and progressive change. Not everyone will agree with his strategy for growing the party and building a majority for change. Yet, Obama is sincerely committed to delivering profound and positive change.
