i wonder if these people care for an elderly. i am lucky to get food to them and change of menu to keep it interesting. my wife lost her smelling with brain tumor 15 years ago. and taste,, and dry mouth and hence fighting thrush most of the time too.
i found the suggestions useless. crunch foods. i am scared to death she would choke on anything not soft. i cut up everything very fine for her. make sure she drinks lots of water with her meals to help her digestion.
to keep things interesting. we get excited about what i will make her. or bring her favorites , so what if it the same favorite ten times a week , she cannot remember an hour ago. i give lots of treats.. mocca coffee, with snack.. chips broken small later in morning,, nice lunch things she remembers (long term memory) that she liked. meats that are tasty with gravies for more liquid to make it easy to swallow. and later in afternoon a nice big chocolate sunday. which i hide yogurt organic to fight the thrush in addition to meds she gets, with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
yes she is diabetic, thyroid , etc etc etc.. but in her situation that is minor compared to how quickly she fails with bp dropping , liver enlarged, etc etc. so bottom line you want someone to eat for you... make it fun and interesting.
i doubt any time like that is spent in nursing homes. it's most likely delivered without excitement or someone giving them special attention. we have breakfast around 1 or 2am ,, why, because she is awake and watching tv. and if was in bed 24/7 for 15 months i would want my time broken up into events too. so early morning we make a big deal out of breakfast.. today was an omelet, i named if after her.. boy, she got all excited. and then i sign onto si and bored everyone before going back to bed for quick nap. gggg |
