Its possible that the single payer system might not push any large reduction in drug prices. If so it shouldn't have a major negative effect on drug research, but I believe you are looking for a reduction in cost here (and even if you are not there would be political pressure in any single payer system to reduce the cost of drugs)

The biggest savings, as I've said dozens of times, is from taking the insurance company overhead and inefficiency out of the system. And as I've said dozens of times, there may or may not be pressure on US drug prices. It there is an end to the US subsidy then they will have to raise prices in the rest of the world, cut US advertising costs, and maybe take a slight hit in profits.

The drug companies are not going to stop developing drugs. Just as farmers would not stop growing food if we ended farm subsidies.
