I see it as Hillary vs either Giuliani or McCain.
I'm pretty sure it'll be Hillary vs McCain, with McCain winning. (Wish I could put big money on it, legally, at today's odds.) Rudy screwed himself with his weaselly "I hate abortion, but...."
Rudy used to be credited with integrity for sticking to his pro-choice, pro-gay, anti-gun stances in the face of howling criticism from conservatives. I disagree with him on all those, but they weren't deal-breakers for me. I'm more concerned about countering Allahmaniacs and promoting a pro-business environment, where Rudy scores high points.
But now he's looking flaky in dealing with his negatives. That's not what you want to see from Mr. 911. That's not what you want to see from the guy who told Saudi Prince Al Mighty where to shove his $10M check. Instead of just telling the single-issue goons to take a flying leap (which is just what he should tell them, except nicely), he's weaseling out the wazoo. Combine this sudden spine-ectomy with his pix in drag, his shadowy family life, Bernie Kerik, shifty finances, and the expectation of more flaky-sounding responses from Rudy as the MSM apes dig up more crap to throw at him, and what have you got?
Here's what you've got: a bad bet. That's how too much of the Republican electorate is going to see Rudy before this goes much farther. I think he's screwed. |
