I thought the book was very good, as was "Crossing the Chasm". How does it apply to the Microsoft-Netscape feud? I think it depends on how you define the market. Is the OS the platform? Or is it the Internet software?

Microsoft is fighting a war on at least 3 fronts. First, before Netscape existed, Lotus was bragging that Notes would make the OS irrelevent. Microsoft still hasn't caught up with them technically, because there's a lot of functionality to code. Netscape is a much better marketing company, but MS has caught up with them technically in just 9 months (they've been attacking Notes for years). Third, Intuit is creating a software infrastructure for banking that will be very important. MS has almost conceded defeat there, which could cost them dearly in the long run.

The only thing saving MS is the defeat of Novell by NT.

Contrary to what the Clinton administration may think, the system software market is very competitive.
