| Hi DWB, I see I didn't reply. Belatedly here we go. I happened upon your post when clicking on your profile to refresh my memory of your long SI history and spotted this stream in your list of places where you'd posted.
< Just curious what you find objectionable in the teachings of Jesus Christ? >

As I wrote: They do establish sensible rules for living in most cases, which is not a bad idea, but as far as the mystical mumbo jumbo goes, it's mostly a force for evil.

I don't know JC's teachings. I'd need the list so we could go through them like we go through politicians' promises and ideology to see what we think of their various ideas.

I didn't know there was a definite list - I dare say a lot was made up later, but we could go with that list too.

<Jesus said "Give unto Ceasar what is Ceasars, give unto God what is Gods".> For all his talents, he wasn't much good at apostrophe's [he could have cheated and got some ethereal help but maybe that was just a way of showing original sin].

As far as getting money and power, it was a brave [and usually dead] person who went up against the Catholic Church aka Church of Rome for 1,500 years. I'm sure you have heard of inquisitions, heresy, burnings at the stake etc. I don't know that there was an encyclical, but history seems fairly certain about what happened in practise, never mind what was supposed to happen.

Judging by the assets around the Catholic world, there was plenty of cash available for construction so there were funds coming from somewhere.
