I don't think they could smear Edwards. I know how the GOP smear machine thinks and I can't think of anything they could use affectively. Obama is a different matter. That's why despite the amazing rise of Obama I still hope he's the eventual VP, and Edwards the nominee. But I admit that looks unlikely, and I will certainly support Obama fully if he perseveres, because right now he looks almost unstoppable.

I say almost because I don't know Obama's real life story personally. What if there is something there which could scare off white voters and lose us the election, or even make it close? If so, we have to be ready with an alternative, and Edwards is an ideal replacement as frontrunner.

PS: My first choice was Gore. Even though he did blow it by picking Lieberman in 2000. If he had picked a southerner, he'd have been in. White southerners are a proven winning commodity for democrats. Just the way it is.
