Is the government supposed to approve home loans? No. But it should have stepped in when greed overtook the real estate industry. That's what gov'ts do......mitigate the excesses of capitalism. How would the government prevent bad home loans without putting themselves into the approval process? By making it against the law to do what the subprime lenders did.
