I think I have posted here about my ongoing battle to get HDTV service from my local CBS station. I tracked down the ownership of the station, which had recently changed, and sent the following Email to the VP Operations in New Jersey last night.

Dear Sir:

I live in Waikiki and get your local station by cable from Time Warner. It is impossible for me to get the station over the air. Your station has refused to provide your HD signal to Time Warner. Because of your position, I can't get HD for your station. I get it for the other Nets. Every time an NFL game or golf is broadcast on your station, I curse you people.

My research indicates that no mid-market station such as yours has been able to get Time Warner to pay for their HD signal. So the mule-like stubbornness of your management here has resulted in a sizable group of local TV watchers being formed who are unhappy with you. Our communication with your local managers has been met with indifference.

We have had enough of your station's arrogance. You are a public utility, and subject to Government rules. We think the best course of action open to us, if you don't change your position, is to institute a class-action suit. We think a Honolulu jury would agree with us.

We are not really interested in enriching a local "Junk Yard Dog" lawyer, but you leave us no choice.

A few minutes ago, I got a call from the local General Manager of the station. He told me that he was "almost at the end of negotiations with Time Warner," and the I should "Hang in there, I would probably get HD service by this weekend."

Ahh, I love the smell of victory in the morning! :>)
