Yes, a horrible speech from start to finish - delivered with style. I was appalled by it at the time. Obama is simply wrong.

The separation of church and state came about when the more religious political leaders realized how important it was - not when the secularists of the time argued for separation.

So Obama is wrong on two counts. First he suggests it is the secularist that want to keep religion out of politics. He should read John Adams (a very religious man and 2nd President).

And second, religion SHOULD be checked at the door when you enter the public square. Obama confuses personally affirmations - like Washington's "So help me God" after being sworn in - with public mixing of religion and politics. There is a huge difference.

I'm not suggesting Obama give up his religious views to enter politics - not at all - but he shouldn't bring them into the public square.
