WNPOC to start multi-well program in Block 5B - Sudan From the 3 of December 2007. West Nile Petroleum Operating Company (WNPOC), a joint operating company between Petronas and Sudapet is hoping to start a multi-well exploration drive in Block 5B in the Muglad Basin before the end of 2007. Site preparations for the first well, Umm Dandalo 1 are significantly advanced. Umm Dandalo is described as the largest prospect in the block, which includes the Barada, Kasafa and Nyal structures. With the exception of Nyal, which is on the west flank of the basin, the others are all in swamp areas on the east flank of the basin. Relatively heavy oil is expected to be found in the Cretaceous clastic sediments in structural traps that have many features in common with the discoveries made in adjoining Block 5A. The company has acquired over 1,280 km of 2D seismic in 2006. Unrisked reserves for the three swamp areas wells are estimated by Lundin Petroleum to be in the range of 500 MMboe. energy.ihs.com
