The processing companies like Archer Daniel Midland reap a larger share of the profits. If you look at the nearly monopolistic seed companies it is even more apparent.

Nope, wrong. According to Stockval, ADM's pre-tax margin median value for the past 10 years was 3%. Is that what you call a high profit level?

And even if your mistaken claim that the food processors earned higher than deserved profit levels was accurate, what would stop other companies from entering the food process industry and gaining some of those profits, and also push the margins lower due to the increased competition?

As for these monopolistic seed companies (whoever they are), what allows them to have a monopoly? Breaking monopolies is one of government's roles.
