If Gossage got in, Rice should have gotten in. Some say his stats are inflated because of The Wall. I recall a few times he hit line drives off The Wall that were still rising. He hit them so hard they bounced back to the infield and they only counted as singles. He was so strong he broke his bat on a check swing once. He didn't make contact, the whip action from his wrists broke the bat. (I didn't personally see that, it may be just a legend)

He didn't get the respect he deserved then, he's not getting it now.
