Sean; Re Intel, slot 1 etc. What is emerging the the loss of the intel from Wintel. It is becoming the W platform. Intel is trying to do a "microchannel job" and wrench the channel into going it's way. I feel it will fail and the slot 1 concept will prove to be technically useless(just like the microchannel was) as other ways and means will emerge. That Intel is trying to get support chip makers and memory makers into the box is bad for them as those left out might die if all outside die. I thinkthat a dual market will appear and Intels share will shrink as the added costs of slot 1 and their higher price eneter into competition with AMD/Cyrix et al. As usual the mammals will eat the eggs of the dinosaurs. Whatever you do in the slot 1 you can do lying flat on two side of a motherboard, so I can see a denser area on the motherboard doing all that slot 1 will do. The copper tech and better cooling will kill any advantage that slot 1 may have.(copper tech runs cooler as copper has lower resistance than Al(uminium), and this is even better at low micron sizes as the heavier copper atoms resist electron impacts better than Al.
