Sorry to say, CDWN has all the makings of a collosal miscalculation. It's hard to find handle figures for the track but Beyer in the Wash Post had them for Wednesday, October 8. Attendance was 1080 and they bet a scant $73,500 on CD's races and $30,700 on simulcasts. The fields were small, one being only three horses. That's a recipe for financial disaster. Moreover, few bettors would care to wager on a CD simulcast with the small number of entries on Cd's card.

Perhaps they can pull it off next year with a great turf course and purses that might attract quality horses and big simulcast bettors. But it's a longshot that this investor, anyway, wouldn't touch. Even if it gets down to 3 or 4, where's the upside?
