I came back from my retreat filled with calmness and peace of mind .... anyone who has not been to a Jesuit retreat has missed a soul mending.... which, as you noted, Scoot, a matter in which I was in sore need.

ol son, down here there would be a multiplicity of OTHER things that would've happened .. none of which occurred in Wi, thankfully
you'd have
a) had a shiv stuck into your kidney whilst the perp was in your headlock *(MOST likely event)
b) had a cap busted on you by his buddy
c) gotten shot by him when he came up from the pushdown
d) something BAD done to AND your kid by BOTH
e) got your kid shot/stuck
the only time anything like this happened to me .. and, indeed it was similar .... I pulled heat on the guy and had him apologise to my kid AND the folks in the store and told him to go on his way BUT to remember his manners ... he did as was told and ran away pretty fast when he was finished with his asking forgiveness
my opinion *(which is def in the minority here) is that you simply showed GloopJr how to get himself HURT in the future...
BUT, it could be that the culture is much much dif in the land of the frozen tundra... as I'm really serious about the possibilities here in Texas....
I'd rate the odds of you getting stuck doing what you did at around 75percent here
