I'd like to see a healthy national individual insurance market as well. Of course getting there from here may not be easy.

One thing I would want done is to remove the tax advantages currently given to employer provided insurance.

Another thing I'd like to see is to allow anyone in the US to buy insurance from any company meeting the standards in any state. New York State would be free to mandate all sorts of coverage, but than the insurance companies would set up in other states and New Yorkers should be free to buy their product.

Both of these moves are in a way pretty simple, but they may be politically difficult.

Cost is a much bigger topic, but both of these changes would help out on the cost front.
