The word "socialism" has been used on this thread as code equivalent to "Willie Horton".

Whenever we suggest policies that ease the lives of the poor and powerless, there are people on this thread who will trot out links to right wing websites that repeat over and over again and in various formats that low taxes and a weak safety net are essential to the well being and prosperity of our country. We are told over and over again that any safety net will lead to the dreaded "socialism".
