Our current system has effectively done the same thing. I will agree that it has not destroyed them as badly as free medical care for all would. Right now insurance companies are the ones who respond to those signals by denying coverage. People should be free to purchase whatever medical care they can afford.

Prior to the implementation of socialized medicine this is true but it takes convoluted turns for most insured individuals. Senator Clinton's first attempt at socialized medicine and Canada's laws recognise that having adequate medical care risks the monopoly that single payer attempts to create.
