Israel will make a covenant with the anti-christ who gives them protection and also clears the way for the Temple to be rebuilt. It's not just a treaty, it's a covenant which is stronger than a treaty. Daniel also talks about this covenant. It will come about in deception and intrigue, not military force. This covenant begins the final or 70th week of Daniel. The last 7 years of the times of the gentiles. The first 3 1/2 years are "the beginning of birth pangs". The Temple will be built again immediately, finished in 250 days. The Temple sacrifices are going on again and by doing this Israel is trampling underfoot the blood of Jesus considering it unclean for 1,010 days. A total of 1260 days from the covenant (according to Daniel) then the anti-christ comes and sits in the Temple (the abomination of desolation) pretending to be Jesus and fooling the world. He stops the sacrifices because he's here and pretending to be Jesus. He rules for 42 months (3 1/2 years) and that is the great tribulation, 3 1/2 years. Then Jesus returns and gathers His elect, the wrath of God is poured out on the rest and Jesus slays the anti-christ.
