Bill,

You are right. It was already a foregone conclusion that the Indos were going to turf Bre-X when they transferred the exploration and mining rights to a government owned company after the preliminary Strathcona results.

This is, after the big gold rush into Indonesia brought billions of investment dollars into the Indo economy. I can't help it but following are a few of the thoughts flashing through my mind:

1. Just about a year ago, one of Suharto's ministers spoke at a conference in Hong Kong, saying that due to the Busang success, the Indonesian mining industry was booming after years of dormancy.

2. The FIA report did indicate that deGuz and friends initially started salting to keep the Busang site open.

3. Also, deGuz was allegedly in a helicopter with former Indo military commandos befor plunging to his death. Is there a connection from the other side of the world to this story ?

4. Indos kick Bre-X out and give Busang mining rights to a government owned mining company, thus allowing no one else to do anymore exploration at the site.

The possible conclusions to the above are not very pretty !

Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving, Lalit Jain
