How would the government prevent bad home loans without putting themselves into the approval process?

By making it against the law to do what the subprime lenders did.

Making a bad loan s/b a crime? Geez. How about builders who build houses on spec - another crime? Or businesses which over-expand on borrowed money and go bankrupt - lets make that a crime too. Sheesh. If we criminalize enough stuff, everyone will be afraid to do anything.


You questions suggest you don't understand what the subprime problem is and what good lending practices are. I suggest you read up.
