I don't know the details of the EPAs, so they might actually have some obnoxious provisions, but if they represent fairly completely free trade with Europe I think it would have been in the African countries interest to sign them, not just because of any risk of losing the trade that they have now, but because of the additional trade that would be possible. Africa needs to integrate more with the rest of the world to prosper, considering such integration to be despoliation isn't a good way to start.
