WiMAX operator to provide reliable access to broadband data content

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Stratex Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSTX - News), the leading independent supplier of turnkey wireless transmission solutions, has been selected to provide an Ethernet backhaul solution for French WiMAX operator Altitude.

The network will be based on Harris Stratex Networks' Eclipse(TM) microwave radio, which is optimized for data networks, with flexible, high- bandwidth capabilities and native Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. Eclipse is ideally suited to supporting WiMAX backhaul traffic by enabling operators to support high reliability Carrier Ethernet transport. It is the only radio platform to support intelligent Layer 2 Quality of Service controls and features, such as IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation and patent-pending Resilient Wireless Packet Ring (RWPRTM) technology.

"Our operations team chose Eclipse because of its extremely high reliability. We have been satisfied with every single unit in the last two years," said Fabrice Ballartt, Directeur general of Altitude Infrastructure. "The broadband data capabilities of Eclipse will ensure that our WiMAX customers get dependable, smooth service for whatever type of rich data content they are accessing."

Harris Stratex Networks has been engaged to provide Eclipse-based transmission systems and deliver scalable Ethernet connectivity throughout Altitude's WiMAX network. Eclipse supports frequencies from 5 to 38 GHz, supports 10/100 Base-T and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and includes advanced quality of service (QoS) features.

"It is a unique challenge for residential WiMAX operators to roll out pure data networks for the first time and to address large geographic areas," said Guy Campbell, president and chief executive officer of Harris Stratex Networks. "Eclipse enables carriers like Altitude to serve disparate geographic markets with a carrier-class Ethernet infrastructure at a cost that maximizes their profitability."
