In praise of Ultimate Bet. Since my retirement, I have played mostly at PokerStars, once in a while at Full Tilt and rarely at Ultimate Bet. But, lately, I've been playing No Limit Hold Em almost exclusively at UB.

The reason is that I am now playing a "short stack" system that works o.k. at 9 player tables, but much better at 10 player tables. Of course, players depart and arrive and I am often playing at shorter tables than the optimum, but it's the same deal everywhere. UB has 10 player no limit and pot limit cash games. Stars and Tilt do not. I am enjoying the experience and the winnings. And, since my short stack strategy has me playing at higher stakes than I was playing, I am accumulating bonus points at a decent pace.

The only sad thing is that no limit hold em is the only game where they have decent activity. For Pot Limit Omaha, I have to shift back to Poker Stars. And, of course, I play tournaments only at Stars, though I play them more rarely now.

Full Tilt has sort of dropped off my "to do" list. Good site, but not best at anything.

The new rules, where money can't be shifted from site to site by neteller in a few seconds, have allowed me to find some strenths at places where I didn't know they existed. And the short stack strategy seems custom made for UB, or vice versa.

My only complaint is that they are running a bad beat scam where they take fifty cents out of pots. Then, when they pay the bad beats, they rake that already raked money for another 10%. I know they have to pay to run the scam, but that 10% seems very, very high on money that has already undergone a rake.
