Rumors fly !! Is Ascend Com. a target ?

Recently, Ascend Communications (Nasdaq:asnd) has been the focus of various takeover/merger
speculations. Insiders are saying that do to the yearly price decline of over 60%,
from its high price of $80., Ascend is now in prime position for aquisition. The
rumors have been bolstered by a recent Ascend conference call in which the CEO, Mory
Ejabat, stated the following when asked if Ascend was engaged in any aquisitions
or being targeted, "I can not comment on that, in this market anything is doable."

The most publicized speculation was a purchase of Ascend by Hewlett Packard (Nasdaq:HWP).
One source states," This combination is based without merrit and was initiated as
a joke that grew to hopes of gradure from suffering investors." Recently, CNBC has
reported that there is no basis for this rumor.

Amongst the greatest speculation is a Ascend being targeted by Worldcom inc.(Nasdaq:wcom).
The source states," Worldcom is moving fast and furious, to position itself in Europe
and some Asian countries. They have expressed an interest in being able to control
and produce their own labled version of transmission devices, to increase profit
margins as networking access increases at astounding rates in the coming years.
Ascend being the leader in its market, and priced at desireable levels, makes it
a hands down contender for aquisition."

We expect rumors to continue throughout the coming month as Ascend's stock price
searches for validation. We will keep you posted of any changes that may arise.
