I have a hideout for the silver, thanks to a good friend of mine.

(Oh, and Thanks for that cool link to 600 year silver prices! The Black Death may have influenced silver prices - and gold I'm sure.)

I'm not paranoid, just very cautious by nature.

See, a few years ago, in 1996, I was injured on the job. Hurt myself pretty badly and I haven't recovered. If I had never injured myself, I would not have had the incentive to protect and secure my future.

I can't even LIFT the silver, heck I couldn't even help MOVE the silver. I did, however, WATCH the silver.

I also bought all the silver (and gold, which I sold most of it except some 1/4 and 1/2 ounce pieces - couldn't resist - it's beautiful) and my best friend of 30 years helped me move and transport all of it (minus 300+ ounces which I gave away as gifts over the years).

So we moved over 6500 ounces - well over 400 pounds without anyone ever knowing - and yes, we have it hidden away in a sub-basement.

What is a sub-basement? Well, The house we moved into has a regular basement, and it was previously owned by my best friends' family; when her parents died they left her the house and property - 7 acres.

This house is so old, it's gotta be 60 or 70 years old (I'm in the middle of nowhere, rural georgia USA - population is 250 tops - I never see anyone - heck, I gave the chickens (that's another story) names out of boredom).

OK, the basement had to be renovated about 5 years past, and my friend's brother-in-law cut thru the concrete somehow - he's done it before - was a contractor somewhere, that's before I ever saw the house - he cut an area I'll guesstimate about 8 feet by 12 feet out and then dug down - 8x12x8 total area, - it's a big old house; he then - it looks like one of those old mine shafts you see in westerns except it's real sturdy, it's cool, and it's dry. If you don't know it's there, you don't know to look for it.

He then constructed such a simple little hideaway with I think they're six by six inch support beams and pilings whatever they're called, closed it up mostly, put a couple of shelves in there and the rest is/was open space with a little room left to hunker down in case of a tornado or really bad storm.

It's got one of those trap doors with a heavy duty latch inside - and can be locked from the outside (under a deceptive looking throw-rug).

Eight wooden steps down. I store all sorts of stuff in there - candles, flashlights and batteries and those mag-lites, pickled things and canned things - whatever they make here - I just eat it - and sweet onions and fresh off the tree nuts - pecans and walnuts already shelled and blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and the women put them in these - they suck all the air out - vacuum packed, whatever it's called.

I'm thinking of getting a small fridge down there for perishables - in case of an emergency.

I sort of wish I hadn't sown all my wild oats in my misspent youth or I'd probably grow something not currently accepted - the land here is fertile; red clay, a little sand, lots of worms and nature everywhere - perfect for an ex- Bronxite like myself.

However, the chickens will have to stay put - I'll grab all their eggs, though - and bring maybe bring a frying pan with a hot plate down there...

I had my reasons for buying all that silver (and gold) back then and I didn't buy just to sell even at this price or even 20, 25 an ounce; I have this strange, call it a hunch, that I will be needing that silver in the future for something or other - maybe to trade for goods and services - who knows?

And after her brother-in-law you know, kicks the b____t (I don't want to say it aloud) no one else will ever know to even look for it, unless I put up a big sign up saying "This way to untold riches ... and Nuts & Berries..."

That's where the silver is.
