Because the rewards are astronomically high. If there's even a 5% chance of winning the case, that's enough for the ambulance chasers.

Of course, many of these cases end up getting settled at the expense of malpractice insurance. As long as the costs can be passed off to some "unknown entity," these shakedowns will continue.


You need to pay attention... a whole bunch of states have dramatically limited malpractice rewards, and many others are considering the same.
