Because the rewards are astronomically high. If there's even a 5% chance of winning the case, that's enough for the ambulance chasers.

Of course, many of these cases end up getting settled at the expense of malpractice insurance. As long as the costs can be passed off to some "unknown entity," these shakedowns will continue.

And people wonder why health care costs continue to rise. Follow the money ...


Don't a lot of states have caps on malpractice suits as well as on the fees attorneys can get? I'm pretty sure CA has one.
