LIG, depends on the sector. Semi and integration is of course typically done in Asia. But most of the value is captured domestically - the markup is in the design/channel/mkt more so than in actual manufacturing.

And software and biotech have their own peculiar cost structures. They're pretty independent of such costs.

That aside, for tech to keep its margins, the "decoupling": theory would have to manifest: USA dies, BRIC roars ahead. In that scenario I think tech would do fine, especially if the dollar limits towards the value of toilet paper.

But if we get a synchronized global recession, then I agree silicon valley is indeed in trouble. That makes the tech sector a useful canary.
