KT,

I believe Romney has won every primary so far among "registered republicans". Some of these primaries and caucuses actually allow people to cross party lines. Others allow independents to pick one primary or the other.

McCain is popular among independents and moderate democrats and is winning that vote in these republican contests.

Personally, I think that's a crazy process.

I don't know the rules for the rest of the major republican primaries, but if they are actually "republican" primaries I would have to make Romney the favorite from here. He's been first or second in all of them, is the only one without financial issues, and is the best performer among registered republicans so far.

He has a reputation as a flip flopper, but I think the only important issue he has flipped on was abortion. Even, there he supposedly governed to the right of his rhetoric on the issue. I think if republicans actually take a close look, they will prefer him over the others.
