Your argument for an even faster ramp by the DRAM makers sounds logical - as long as .25u design rules don't require vastly different processes relative to whatever the chipmaker was at before.

But I suspect that at the very least they will have to add CMP steps in addition to their new laser steppers.

Unfortunately, I don't have a good source that identifies which chipmaker has finished R&D on which processes. Surely, if the Japanese have a working 256Mb .25u process, then most of the chipmakers should have a production ready 64Mb .25u process???

Does anyone have a source of facts on this subject?
