John, Maxwell, a pioneer in physics and mathematics once postulated a violation of the third law when he spoke of a box divided into two parts with a wall in between with a "demon" acting as a molecular gatekeeper. He would assess the velocity of each molecule/atom that approached from either side and depending on their speed would rebuff them or allow them to pass by opening/keeping closed the gate. Over a period there would appear a hot side and a cold side, and the frictionless gate which took no work to actuate meant that you had an entropic violation. IE balls rolling up hill, a solid bar at T1 becoming at bar with T-x at one end and T+x at the other, etc.. Later quantum theory expiated the demon. James Clerk Maxwell, one of those giants on whose backs' we stand to see further.

Those dinosaurs left traces on the moon a,d Mars which will be found soon. They became extinct due to global thermo nuclear war with clean bombs, the Uranium we now mine is the residue of their waste dumps, I could go on, but must guard my sources. They are active still, but I forgot the URL.

A declining market(for 386, 486) is stil profitable, however I suspect Intel moved on because with several competitors it was less profitable than the newer chips. In the absence of competition they would have kept them in production. There are still uses for them and they are still made.
But they left earlier than they nromally would have.
