As I said, insurance is essentially legalized gambling... and has always been highly regulated. It is really anti-capitalist and their function is a distortion of your precious marketplace. They are pretty much blood sucking middle men, with a fixed profit to handle paper. Their only added value is actuarial analysis. These days they assume almost zero risk... in the year Katrina struck they had record payouts and still had record profits.

No, it's very different than nationalizing a company that actually adds value. Insurance has always been considered a necessary evil... if it's not necessary, and is actually making a real productive industry much less efficient, then by all means it should be nationalized.

Let's not confuse our current medical system with anything close to pure capitalism.
