Even though the benefits of a single-payer system make perfect sense to me, it will never be adopted in this country, at least any time soon.

There's too much fear of anything 'socialist' and there are entrenched special interest groups that have and will continue to cleverly propagandize the issue. This is the reason Democrats don't even suggest adopting a single-payer system and are instead focused on cobbling together some kind of fix using our private insurers.

I mean, can you even imagine the right-wing fury that would explode at the thought of studying a FRENCH way of doing anything!!!

BTW, I don't know what you've read but France IS considered as being a single-payer system of universal coverage. The departures from this are minimal.
