Thanks, John. As for changing things, though, you are an optimist. I'm pretty pessimistic myself. From an investment point of view, I think we've peaked and other parts of the world, including Europe, will prove safer and more rewarding in terms of investment. US companies are becoming less competitive in ways other than their health care costs.

Thirty years ago decisions were made that set trends in motion. At the time, most of those decisions I agreed with.
But the resultant trends have been destructive to the country on balance, IMO. Even if Democrats control congress and the White House, I think they only become the party that presided over continued deterioration because there are no good, clear-cut choices left.

I don't know if you listened to Bernanke yesterday. He said the time to have engineered fiscal responsibility in government was ten years ago. He said it very quietly and no one picked up on it....not then or later by the media.

Sometimes I think of the general state of affairs in this country as one of those weakening bulls in a bullfight with
all those little spear-thingies sticking out of its neck and shoulders. Maybe it would be better for Republicans to maintain control of both branches and just finish the country off quickly.

At any rate, I suspect it will be a pitiful sight watching Dems try to reverse things.
