It's really snowing tonight here in Northwestern Pennsylvania.
A great night to just be at home. Unless you're a 17 year old boy with a girlfriend! Earlier in the evening, everyone in the family, except for the 17 year old stayed home and watched a movie together. Even the neighbor, our 17 year old son's best friend joined us for movie night. The snow was falling, but we had a nice warm cozy fire in the fireplace, and plenty of blankets and pillows. We watched the movie, "Bridge to Teribitha." It was a good movie, even if it was sad. I am thinking my husband didn't fully appreciate the movie. He was on the other end of the couch, fully reclined, enjoying the move, or so I thought. By the end of the movie, it was apparent he was not watching it as intently as the rest of us, his snoring gave him away!!
Shortly after we finished watching that movie, our 17 year old arrived back home, and my husband went up to bed.
It was time for movie #2. This movie was kind of a walk down memory lane. Michael, the 17 year old, his favorite movie as a child was Jungle Book. At Christmas time there was a DVD release of the movie, some anniversary edition. Although it was certainly not anything he ask for, we bought it for him, as sort of a keepsake, because the original copy of it was on VHS. Of course we now realize that between HD and Blue-ray, this "updated" version on DVD, will soon be as obsolete as the original VHS version....but that is a totally different subject. Back to movie night! Needless to say, it really wasn't one of Michael's favorite gifts this year, but he understood the sentiment behind the gift. At Christmas time our 11 year old son Kevin, informed us the he had never seen the movie Jungle Book. That seemed nearly impossible. The older kids in the house tease us that Kevin was neglected as a child based on the movies he has not seen. Tonight we remedied at least one such omission. Mike had gone to bed, the neighbor had gone home, but my four kids and I, stayed up in front of the fireplace and watched Jungle Book. It was actually fun, the older kids reminiscing about what was their favorite part of the movie, or which was their favorite song, as they sang along. |
