Tech Stuff.....
To all,
Nextel currently utilizes frequencies from 851-866 MHz with a 45 MHz offset (806-821) and 25 KHz channel spacing. These are probably the freq's that will be looked at for the contiguous freq plan. No, they do not currently have a "contiguous" set-up. I am under the impression they are going to the aucion with intents of swapping for the freq's they'd like. Make no mistake, this "contiguois" spectrum talk only makes it easier and more efficient to design the system and funtion within the spectrum.
Nextel is currently on-air (digital) in California, Nevada, Boston, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Virginia, Colorodo, Some of North West Ohio, Maybe St. Louis. I know there are more cities, I can't recall.
I think the 1.85 Billion from Kemper, Toronto Dominion, is going to help finance the buildout.
Nextel is rolling out the "new" technology as we speak and customers are already on line. The phone looks very similiar to the current cellular handsets and is comparable in weight. I would suspect that there is a considerable lead in comparison to PCS companies for once the PCS companies deploy they will have to go through growing pains like cellular (ten years ago) and Nextel.
Hope this helps, I am fairly versed with the technology, so let me know if I can clarify anything for everyone.
