You can't argue with Coxes' record. I find him an enjoyable listen. Wish I could figure out how to get his talk into an MP3 file so I don't have to listen to it right at the computer.

That said, I don't get his whole argument for a very brief recession. Low inventories and high employment? Seems like we have a huge inventory of excess residential and commercial real estate, at least here in the US. And who trusts those official employment numbers?

As for the negative real interest rate argument. You could turn that around and say that if the economy is tanking in such a low real interest rate environment, then something really, really bad must be going on.

I think you just have to recognize that some people always see the bright side of things. Or that possibly BMO does not want him to be too gloomy. They are trying to sell stocks and mutual funds aren't they?
