Will you denounce me to the people's committee? That attitude still prevails here. We have a young Russian geologist in western Ukraine that speaks Ukrainian but is not accepted as Indigenous because of her Russian last name. Her family has been in the area since the 1880's. I told her that is a lot like Canada where the natives are officially called First Nation and the French are on a pedestal of special rights that the average joe does not have. The most my Irish/Scottish ancestors who settled western Canada in the 1880's could have done is mingle with the Indians and become French speaking Metis. They then would have had special hunting, fishing and educational rights, i.e. they could take what the want and get everything else for free.
