VANCOUVER, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - Colibri Resource Corporation has received assays from core drilling of the first two holes on the Leon Project, Sonora, Mexico. This project presents multiple targets including at least 4 separate clusters of artesanal underground mine workings. Core drilling focused on the Amarillas zone, a former producing mining camp. The Leon Project is held by an option agreement between the Mexican subsidiary of Colibri, Minera Halcones SA de CV and a private Mexican company to acquire 100% ownership of 5,800 hectares of mineral concessions.

Drill targets on the Amarillas zone (see drill core location map posted at www.colibriresourcecorp.com) cut intensely altered sericite - kaolinite host rocks, quartz veins and stockwork quartz veinlets. Pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite have been observed in the drill core. Mineralization occurs as quartz veins containing gold-silver-copper-lead-zinc and as disseminated intervals up to 30 meters wide. Core holes LEDH-1 and LEDH-2 were targeted to cut across a zone of discontinuous outcrops of steeply NW-dipping quartz-sericite veins and stockworks.

Highlights include the near surface mineralization encountered in both holes:

Between 11 and 18m in LEDH-1, 7 meters average 7 ppb gold, 15.3 ppm silver, 0.27% copper, 0.085% lead and 0.38% zinc,

And between 0 and 19.5m in LEDH-2, 19.5 meters average 94 ppb gold, 18.4 ppm silver, 0.21% copper, 0.13% lead, 0.22% zinc including 1 meter of 1.2 grams per tonne gold, 134.2 grams per tonne silver (equivalent to 4.3 ounces per metric tonne), 2.05% copper, 0.93% lead, 0.75% zinc between 18.5 and 19.5 meters depth

The broad intervals of disseminated mineralization between 77.3 and 115.5 meters in LEDH-2 and 193.8 and 222 meters depth in hole LEDH-1 are probably the same structure.

Molybdenum and tungsten are also strongly anomalous in some of the mineralized zones.

The breadth and extent of mineralized intervals in these first 2 holes is considered to be an encouraging indication of the size and potency of this porphyry system. Assays are pending for holes 3 to 5. Drilling has begun again following the Christmas break.

The same silicified, sericitized structures have been traced for more than 3 km strike length. The first phase of core drilling is focused on one precious metals-rich zone of a large porphyry intrusive system that includes the large copper-molybdenum rock and soil anomaly 2-3 km to the east of current drilling, and the El Creston molybdenum deposit (see news releases of Creston Moly Corp, TSX- CMS). Drilling was directed at -50 degrees across structures that dip approximately 70 degrees hence sample widths are likely to be close to true width.

Each core sample is logged and cut in half with a diamond saw. Half of the sample is taken to Sonora Sample Preparation Lab, Hermosillo, Mexico, and then transported to Vancouver, B.C. Assays are conducted by International Plasma Labs. The remaining half of the core sample is stored in Hermosillo.

Exploration was conducted under the supervision of J.J. Irwin, B.Sc., Ph.D., the qualified person under National Instrument 43-101 on this project.
