Tom:

<<Someone must have sold on a forced margin call yesterday.>>

Lots of them I think. I could have been one but my brokerage doesn't automatically sell me out. I have about 10% margined (i.e., my stocks are worth about 110% of the A/C equity). Not wise, I agree, and I've been bringing it down steadily over the last year. Jim Sinclair is right!

Anyway, my account was down 13% yesterday but I refused to look till after today's open! Sure enough I'm on a margin call -- not too big fortunately -- but I think today's recovery will get rid of that by tomorrow morning. Phew!

Last night I was thinking about a government building I know here in Canada that is built like a pyramid, and I was told that they designed it like that so that when bureaucrats threw themselves off the balcony they only fell 10 feet and broke a leg. I imagine a lot of finance companies wish they were in one like that at the moment! <ng>

I was also thinking about the "be careful what you wish for" thing. Who knows exactly how this will all play out?

Best regards,
Howy
