This effectively shuts off thermal exchange by mixing of the gasses. The greenhouse-gas component shuts off thermal mixing by way of radiation, so the net result is much less thermal mixing and a buildup of heat.

I don't think you understand that no heat gets off this earth through conduction or convection. Except for a very very small amount of gas that may escape when meteorites skip off the atmosphere, or missiles leave earth, all heat is gained or lost through radiation. You can talk of the differences in the upper and lower atmosphere but that is still part of the earth and has little or nothing to do with GW.
